Abstract

Welding work poses a high risk to eye health, making the use of PPE crusial. However, many workers fall to use it. As a result, exposure to welding light and fumes often leads to symptoms of visual impairment. This study aims to determine the relationship between PPE use and visual impairment symptoms among welding workers in Bangkinang City District. The method used was an analytical observational study with a cross sectional approach. This study was conducted on August 25 – September 2, 2025 with a sample size of 59 workers using a total sampling technique. The research instruments were questionnaires and observation sheets. Univariate and bivariate analyses were used with the Chi Square test. The univariate analysis revealed that 33 respondents (55.9%) did not use PPE and 39 respondents (66.1%) experienced visual impairment. The Chi Square test showed a relationship between PPE use and visual impairment (p-value = 0.001).
