Transformasi Perilaku Pengelolaan Sampah Rumah Tangga Melalui Pelatihan Komunikasi Risiko Kesehatan Berbasis Community-Based Participatory Research dan Participatory Action Research

Abstract

Household waste management remains a significant challenge in the development of public environmental health, particularly in residential areas with increasing domestic activities and population density. Low levels of environmental health literacy, limited public awareness of the health risks associated with waste, and limited community participation have resulted in household waste management not being carried out in a targeted and sustainable manner. This community service activity aims to increase community capacity through community-based health risk communication training in Belutu Village, Siak Regency. The program was implemented using a Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach combined with Participatory Action Research (PAR). Implementation of the activity included identifying community needs, mapping environmental issues, participatory program development, health risk communication training, household waste management practices, joint reflection, participatory evaluation, and strengthening program sustainability. The results of the activity showed an increase in community understanding of the relationship between waste management and environmental health. Community participation in household waste sorting practices also increased, accompanied by the formation of environmental cadres as agents of change at the community level. The participatory approach implemented not only strengthens community environmental health literacy but also fosters collective awareness and strengthens community social capacity. This program is expected to become a model for communication-based community service.
